Sharia funds: a growing product line

MUSLIM investors are increasingly given the option of investing into sharia funds in their pension portfolios. It is not surprising that many fund managers see these as a growing product line. Grant Watson, co-manager of the Old Mutual Albaraka equity unit trust, says the total wealth of Muslims in SA could be as high as R180bn – sharia funds with about R9bn under management account for just 5% of this.
