Claire Rentzke joins multi-manager 27four from RisCura to head manager research
Claire Rentzke has joined South African multi-manager firm 27four Investment Managers as head of manager research, based in Cape Town.
Rentzke brings a wealth of experience to the role; having spent more than nine years with the RisCura Group’s consulting division, where she headed manager research before moving into a consulting role more recently. She has a Bachelor of Business Science degree from the University of Cape Town and is a CFA charter holder.
Rentzke will work closely with 27four’s investment team, covering long only, hedge, Africa, Shari’ah and global managers across its suite of products.
27four now has more than R10 billion in assets under management across a broad spectrum of investor portfolios. It takes a team-based approach to building well diversified portfolios linked to a range of investor goals and risk appetites, with a focus on asset allocation, investing in a combination of large, wellknown managers and smaller untapped boutiques.
“Markets are tricky and tough to read at the moment,” said Rentzke. “It will be interesting to see how fund managers perform in this environment. Value guys have taken a beating, which is a global trend. South African equities also look expensive relative to other emerging markets, and the bond markets have had a massive rally. But cash is a bad place to be, with low interest rates and prospects for inflation. It is not easy to find a source of great returns.
“This could be the time for hedge funds to come into their own again. If and when markets correct, they will be able to protect capital.”
